MARA PROVINCIAL PARK. For over 4,000 years, natives built weirs to harvest fish teeming in the narrows here between Lakes Couchiching and Lake Simcoe. Perch still spawn here, and anglers also come for bass, muskie and trout. The main attraction of this little park near Orillia is the wide, sandy beach, one of Lake Simcoe's best.

We enjoyed exploring downtown Orillia as well as the neighboring provincial parks, Mara and McRae Point. I will say just driving though it seems as though Bass lake is the better of the three.. Bass Lake is one of the warmer lakes near Orillia, so it's a great place for extended swimming - especially for little ones. It's a short drive from.

There are no lifeguards at Ontario Parks beaches. IMO: I liked Bass Lake Provincial Park. It is a nice weekend destination or a road trip stop.
